The Leadership in the World (LW) Certificate is a non-credit program of active learning and reflection, designed for professionals, community leaders, social entrepreneurs, and social justice activists/advocates working for a better world. The LW Certificate program supports lifelong learners to explore their sense of vocation or “calling” and deepen their leadership skills, while assessing and documenting their development through a personalized study plan, learning portfolio, and intentional mentorship.
An advanced option…
The Leadership in the World Certificate (Advanced) program invites learners to articulate further the achievement of their self-specified learning goals according to seven zones of competency (and their attendant outcomes).
Of the seven zones, the first four are core and common to the advanced version of every program:
- Air: Intellectual Clarity
Outcomes – Learners completing the program of study will know the key concepts in their chosen area(s) of focus; be critically and creatively reflective of their assumptions; and contribute constructively to the discourse with empathy and respect. - Fire: Passion for Justice
Outcomes – Learners completing the program of study will be aware of their own position in their contextual framework; articulate a stance against oppressive ideas and practices; and demonstrate solidarity and liberative initiatives in their chosen undertaking(s). - Water: Deep Healing
Outcomes – Learners completing the program of study will develop a sense of self-awareness; engage healing perspectives and practices; and articulate collaborative and empathetic leadership in their chosen context.
- Earth: Ecological Embodiment
Outcomes – Learners completing the program of study will articulate how their local social-ecological context informs their actions; identify the core eco-cultural values relevant to their context; and express a vision for an ecologically sustainable practice in that context. Competencies Specific to Your Certificate – Leadership in the World.
The three zones of competency specific to the Leadership in the World Certificate (Advanced) are:
- Lodestone: Moral Compass
Outcomes – Learners completing the program of study will articulate principles of ethical leadership relevant to their vocational context; embody reflective, respectful, and inclusive leadership; and cast a vision for implementing such leadership qualities with compassion in their vocational context. - House: Organizational Literacy
Outcomes – Learners completing the program of study will articulate organizational models pertinent to their vocational context, embody strategies for conflict management, and describe a respectful implementation of such strategies in their vocational context. - Eye in Heart: Visionary Courage
Outcomes – Learners completing the program of study will describe the contributions and styles of current and past leadership in their vocational context and articulate how to embody leadership that promotes consensus-based, democratic, and collaborative community using innovative leadership within their vocational context.
No special application is required for admission to the advanced version of a program. Learners simply inform their educational guide of their intention to proceed with the advanced option at a time appropriate in their progress in the program.
